David L. Poindexter graduated in 1974 with a degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University. After obtaining his undergraduate degree Mr. Poindexter obtained his Masters of Labor and Industrial Relations at Michigan State University in 1976. Mr. Poindexter attended law school at Detroit College of Law, which is now the law school at Michigan State University, graduating with honors in 1980. He passed the bar exam in July of 1980 and began practicing law in Marquette, Michigan. Mr. Poindexter practiced in Marquette for 21 years prior to moving to Big Rapids. In addition to practicing law Mr. Poindexter taught at Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech. University. Mr. Poindexter was a labor arbitrator for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. Mr. Poindexter served as an arbitrator on a number of private industry arbitration panels. In addition Mr. Poindexter served as a mediator for the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission. He was one of the first attorneys in the state of Michigan to become a qualified divorce mediator. Mr. Poindexter passed away July 31, 2006
